where oh where [Oct. 4th, 2004|06:28 pm]

I'm looking for some suggestions.... I really want to take a couple of classes. Something fun, something useful, something creative and most of all, something cheap. I want to get back into knitting. I once was a knitter, albeit for a brief time, and I'd like to pick up my needles once again. Georga also wants to learn how to knit, so I'd love to find a class we could take together. I went by the Yarn Barn last week and was very disappointed by the lack of opportunities (or desire for that matter) that I found there. Apparently they aren't beginner friendly.

Then there's beading. I'd love to learn some basics of beading and jewelry making. I've been meaning to go by Nomadic Notions, and hopefully I get there tomorrow. Unfortunately, they don't have much info on their website.

Basically, I'm looking to learn something new, something that can be a creative outlet, something I can use to make some cool Christmas presents (can you say multi-tasking?) and maybe even meet some interesting people.

Anyone have any suggestions on where I might look? Are there any other yarn or bead shops that you know of? What about classes for kids?

introduction [Aug. 31st, 2004|03:24 pm]

I have happily stumbled upon this little community today. While I consider myself a vetern parent - having managed to see my children out of infancy and into school-age, I am still in great need of the commrodery of other like-minded parents.

I returned to San Antonio in June of 2003 after having spent all of my adult life in the Northern US. While I was born and raised here, I never saw my home city through the eyes of a parent and therefore see it very differently now.

Since my children are school-age (Georga is 8 and Jackson is 5) I don't have the usual venues for meeting other like-minded parents. I'd feel a little strange wondering into a LLL meeting now. :-) But I have such strong convictions when it comes to sharing my parenting experience that I'd love to lend support to others while perhaps meeting some really cool people in the process.
